I was hired to work at Sheffield Area Middle-High School with the responsibility of encouraging a positive environment, while creating a well managed classroom and increasing student involvement.
I began my journey in August 2011 with the students barely being able to read music in 8th grade. The students then performed at our Holiday Concert, the All County Bands in the Round and ending the year full force with the spring concert and commencement. During the year we encouraged involvement with the community by having a drum set clinician, the Dallas Brass, a saxaphone clinician and holding a large Music In Our Schools Month Concert with over 120 community performers. I was also the director of our spring play "Parents Just Don't Understand," a 10 scene comedy. Since my time at Sheffield, students have regained interest in music, started to be responsible for the equipment that they use, and show enthusiasm in the activity. I have been furloughed from my position at SAMHS because of the drastic cuts in staff within the Warren County School District. |
